Four easy tricks to make a small living room look larger

Not all of us have the means to buy a huge villa with a huge garden. Most of us live in high buildings and small apartments. However, having a small limited space doesn't mean it should look small and tiny. Here are four simple room-expanding tricks you should apply to help you maximize your room space

Use lighter colors. Light colors make a room look larger and brighter. Your space will look more open and airy. Avoid painting the walls using dark colors; they tend to absorb light, making a room look smaller. It is recommended to select soft tones of off-white, blue and green, they brighten the room and make it more inviting.

Focus on your windows. Larger windows often allow more natural light to enter the room. If you like to add curtains to your window, avoid using heavy or dark curtains which will transform your room to a darker one. Choose light colors and lightweight fabrics, then match your curtain color to your walls, so it blends with the walls and creates an unbroken line, making a room feel much larger. Install the curtain rods a few inches below the ceiling instead of right above the window frame or hang the rods a few inches past the sides of the windowpanes,  all this will make your windows seem taller and wider.

Place a mirror opposite a window and it will bounce light around the room. This will make the space feel airier. The bigger the mirror, the more light you capture in your room. Choose a large wall mirror to achieve a greater effect.

Maximize your furniture arrangement. Find furniture that suits a smaller space, choose multi-functional furniture, furniture with space to store objects and furniture that can be folded and tucked away when you don’t need them. Place them against the wall to maximize your open space and remember to never block the pathways. Be sure to leave plenty of space between the furniture and make use of corners. And at last, avoid putting solid-wood furniture, which can weigh down a space. Choose furniture made of glass or bright colors or furniture with an open metal base.
